MEET THE THERAPIST/ PRACTITIONER

Reign over your life and watch your dreams blossom

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference and touch many lives. I credit this in part to my mother who was a Social Worker, Nurse, and Philanthropist. My interest and never-ending curiosity about human behavior and my life experiences led me to the study of Psychology. This is not just my career but an integral part of who I am.

Education and Training

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Family and Child Studies from Northern Illinois University. I proceeded to earn a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Adler University (formerly known as The Adler School of Professional Psychology), a Master of Arts degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and a Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling at Graduate level (IAODAPCA Accredited), and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology- all from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. Alfred Adler's work resonated with what I envisioned for the work I do. I advocate for social justice, social inclusion, and equity.

State and National Professional Licensing

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the State of Texas. I am Board-Certified as a Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) (national-level board certification).

Clinical Practice

I practice in the greater Far North Dallas area, utilizing an eclectic and holistic approach in my work. Some of the therapeutic strategies integrated into my practice include, but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution- Focused Therapy, Family Systems, Adlerian and Rogerian approaches.

I have worked in this field for over ten years, in various settings from Inpatient hospital settings, crisis stabilization, drug, and alcohol rehabilitation facilities, and community outreach work and trained crisis line operators.

As a clinician, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients, going above and beyond to accommodate their unique needs and nurture their individuality.

Knowing how difficult life can be, I work diligently in helping my clients find their own answers. This is achieved by tailoring my approach to therapy according to each individual's unique needs. I have a passion for serving diverse clientele with circumstances unique to their own lives from different backgrounds and belief systems.

Business Consulting

As an Industrial-Organizational Practitioner/Consultant, I work with individuals & businesses contingent on specific needs. These needs include: Mergers & Acquisitions, Change management, Leadership coaching, Recruiting and Retention, Training, Job analysis, Organizational development, Employee engagement, and more.

I also teach Certificate, Masters, and Doctoral students as an Adjunct Professor in the Leadership and Applied Psychology Department at Adler University's online global campus. I teach in the accredited Advanced Substance Use Counseling  Certificate (online program) and Industrial Organizational Psychology programs. Contributing as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in instructional design and program development projects has been an enriching experience.

This has been an amazing journey of learning and sharing so far. I look forward to continuing that journey with you as we work towards finding the answers that will improve your quality of life and work.

Best wishes!

Cheryl R. Mesikano Tyler, Ph.D., LPC, LCDC, MAC
